Hello guys in the last 2 months i have been updated my tank and making it livable for my turts. i have added lights, a better filiter, heater, ATB area, and filled the tankn up higher. after all this my turts skin is still peeling off you can see the strips on the white dead skin on there bodies. i am wondering if this is still new tank syndrom or if i need to put some kind of chemicals in the water.

Nope,its just a normal process of your turtles. All reptiles shed dead skin. I am sure your new filter will pick it up. :wink:

It is part of the growin process. The shed their skin and scutes. Sounds like you are doing a good job.

Heavy skin shedding can be caused by water temps that are too high or overfeeding or both.

Water temp is usually 76-78. I feed them everyother day a little bit and when I walk by again (if they still look hungery) i feed them a little more. i dont want to over feed them so i found this to be the best option. i tried to feed them so fresh veggies (carrot and lettice) but they wernt interested.

The water temp is good.

However, I would quite giving in to the begging. Just because they look hungry doesn't mean that they are. They are terrific beggers! If I gave in everytime Squirt begged for food, I would have a fat, pyramiding, and dead turtle :lol:

You want to feed them the amount of pellets that would fit into their head as if it were hollow. Not including the neck of course. Until he is about 4 inches. you also want to give veggies everyday with the pellets, they can eat as much of the veggies as they want.

After 4 inches you want to give the pellets every other day and veggies everyday.

Great, I am such a sucker!! I swear Sheldon starts begging everytime my shadow passes the tank!
