Generally I would stay away from anything that says "turtle" tank. Most do not allow you to take full advantage of the tank. A lot of them have holes or slots on the side, and cannot be filled all the way with water. Try taking a look at this section, http://www.glasscages.com/?sAction=ViewCat&lCatID=2 Those are standard aquariums, and very moderately priced. If you would prefer to not purchas online you can go to PetCo.com and "build your own aquarium" Just select the style and size you would like and it you can print out an order sheet to take instore. A standard 55 gallon tank with black trim and no stand is 109 dollars. Plus always check out Craigslist.com try the Pet, Household and General sections. (:

I believe PetCo has a standard sale every year that is a dollar per gallon tank sale. I don't know when it is, but I've heard it mentioned frequently on the board. Also, check out Craigslist and local garage/yard sales.

Check your yellow pages for businesses that specialize in selling aquariums and aquarium supplies, you'll generally find the lowest prices at these stores especially for the larger tanks 90 gal +.

I ordered from glasscages.com and they make nice tanks. They are very well supported and HEAVY! If you need something in an usual size, a rimless tank, or simply dont have a good selection in your area, then they are really good. If you dont live in one of their delivery cities dont forget to add your gas costs to the costs of the tank. You will have to travel to pick up. Even so I got a very good deal on a 36"x18"x25" tank.

Since ordering from them our petco has expanded their reptile area and they now carry 18" wide tanks in several widths. Some are very reasonably priced considering you dont have to pay shipping/delivery.

Next time craigslist. Some great bargains there if you can catch them.

I am a big fan of the already mentioned, glasscages.com. They make great quality products at good prices, and they will do custom work to accommodate your reptile needs.

My petco has a decent selection up to 90 gallons and I have found out from the manager there that he will price match with other places...all I need is the add or enough information so he will give me the price. I do have another "local" pet store but the owner himself will walk away from you in the middle of a sale if he gets a phone call! Won't even ask to be excused! I have looked at glasscages.com and they all look cool...just shop around and try to deal with people for the best price on what you are looking for.

Some great tips so far! If you have the time, you can check craigslist and local classifieds. I think Petco/Petsmart occasionally have $1 per gallon tank sale (up to 60 gallons?).

I've also seen some custom tanks on ebay. Good luck!

The $1 per gallon sale is Mid August thru September and it is up to 55 gallons, and only what they have in stock at the time. It's what I plan on doing this summer. (:

I recently upgraded to a 75 gallon tank, and shopped around a bit before buying. For me the little local aquarium store was cheaper than Petco or Petsmart. Don't forget to check out the little Mom & Pop stores. What they don't have in stock they can probably order for you, and its always nice to give some business to a local family owned shop!

I've seen a lot of great deals at Petland Discounts. And usually the tank you buy includes other aquarium stuff, like a filter and plants and whatnot. They usually have great deals on all sizes and shapes too. I have also heard good things about glasscages.com, but I've never purchased a tank from them. Good luck on the job search! I feel for you because I'm out of work too!

I would keep an eye on Craigslist, I've seen people get some really great finds on there. When I upgrade my tank (within the next year), I plan to buy if off of Craigslist if I can find a good deal.

I love the long tanks but my problem is finding a stand for it, any suggestions? And no I cant "build" one- I am not allowed to use the power tools!

i love the basking platforms on the turtle tanks at glasscages.com. the only bad thing is you cant really fill it all the way. they doo look really cool though
