Habitat - Indoor :: MVB and digital w/probe questions

How can I hang an MVB directly over Bent's basking area 12 inches away? Can I use one of those lamp stands from Zoo Med? And for the digital w/probe... should I stick the probe in the water to take the temps? What should I use to take the basking temp?

i have a flouresnt light hanigng on chains above my tank and ran the power cord for the zoo med clamp lamp (without the clamp) through the chains and secured it with zip ties. as for the temp i still havent really found a good way to do that

I have a 100-watt MVB hanging from a Zoo-Med lamp stand.

Some people have used the probes to take the temp on the basking area. Some people have gone higher tech and use a temp gun. I pretty much test the basking area temp by laying a thermometer where my turtle would bask (on an object the high of the turtle would make it a little more accurate) and letting it sit for about 20 min., then checking it.

One of the people here posted a pic on my post how they have there MVB hanging from a plant hanger using a dome light. I think it looks pretty groovy and different from the average.

I found the studs in my ceiling and just ran a 1x2 across them right over the basking area. Screwed in a hook and attached a chain to it and hung my clamp light from it(took the clamp off) I would just raise and lower the chain on the hook until the temp was right.

Doing it this way I know that the light is not going anywhere.

I bought a floor lamp with an arm, cut off the fixture on the end of the arm and replaced it with a 100 watt MVB bulb fixture that I can raise and lower with little chains. The bulb hangs straight down over the basking area.
