Habitat - Indoor :: 100 gallon stock tank heater

What heater can I use for a 100 gallon stock tank? I only want to have one heater in there.

Most filters I've been looking at (I'm also upgrading) are only sufficient up to 75gallons of water...a heater at both ends of the tank, I'm told, will keep the water temperature more even. Everyone told me to get Stealth =)

Those go up to a 300 watt, which should do a 100 gallon tank just fine if a 250 watt does a 75 gal.

Also, google up 300 watt aquarium heater and you will get many results.

Visi-Therm also makes the Stealth heater -- I would recommend that or an Ebo Jager or a Tronic heater.

I looked at the Ebo Jager heaters, and could only find one that went up to 250 watts.

Sorry, I missed that part. I'd still choose those heaters, 2 150 watt heaters would be better. Most likely he won't always need 300 watts in there, so he can take one out.

Sorry to be a noob here, but aren't stock tanks typically plastic, in which case wouldn't a 300W glass heater be a bad thing to have up against the side of a plastic tank?

The heater Chris linked to is the Visi-Therm Deluxe Aquarium Heater which is glass unlike the Stealth heaters.

Or am I missing something....

They sell heater guards and some have made their own. I have an Ebo Jager (tempered glass) in a stock tank with no problems. Are you thinking that it will melt? They won't be able to in water and the stock tank is extremely thick.

Thanks Steve. I had to ask...and I was thinking that they might melt or at least deform the plastic tank...and I forgot about heater guards.
