is it ok to have blue sand? because i bought some crayola stuff and i thought it would be really cool to have in the tank?

not sure but it should be ok if u wash it THOROUGHLY alot... ALOT ALOT ALOT put it in a rubbermaid container and wash wash wash because if im wrong im killing a turtle!! :p

well, its not toxic sand. its says that on the label. i just want to know if it wont hurt the turtle and hope that it wont leave the water some sort of color.

it should be play sand which is ok, u have to wash really good though dont forget.

k thanks. i put the sand in and everything seems to be fine. luckily i only had to wash it like one time. it was REALLY clean.
but there is like bubbles on top of the sand and its really annoying so i am hoping they will go away soon. i will post pictures as soon as i can.

i wouldnt trust it, personally.... but lemme know how it goes. if it goes well i may have to get green sand for torti's tank

I purchased the blue and green Crayola sand from Walmart for my tank. It worked out really well and the "bubbles" do go away. The sand made the tank very colorful and fun...kind of like sand art! I am looking forward to having my students come back next week and see the new turtle digs.

Great to know viverechocolate! I am glad the bubbles go away. because i cant have my filter running with them because there is sand with them and i dont want the sand to ruin my filter.
How long did it take for your bubbles to go away?

Wait... you're not running your filter in the tank anymore? Or is that just until the sand settles?

If you are worried make a pre filter for your intake tube. Buy an aquaclear sponge for a power filter and cut it so that it will slip over your intake tube. you wont have any issues with your filter then

Actually I just ran my hand (gloved) over the surface of the sand and stirred it up a bit and the bubbles disappeared. It didn't take long at all. I have gotten many compliments on it already so I know you will enjoy it!

And yes, I am still running the filter. I just turned it on. I was just waiting until the sand and bubbles went away.
