how big is the turtel? is it a male or female? you should really take the gravel out. if it gets eaten it could become impacted

If its a big female then you need to put him in a bin full of sand or dirt to see if shes trying to lay eggs

Could you be a little more specific? A lot of times turtles will push around anything in the tank. A gravid turtle will usually stop eating and is frantically looking for a nest site, which makes it look like she's trying to escape.
How large are your turtles? Usually females don't lay clutches until they're a few years old.

Also, you really should remove the gravel. Turtles eat it constantly, and although the usually pass it, it can build up and impact them, killing them. It's really an unnecessary risk.

i took the gravel out and now it tries to dig holes in the tank floor.

what kind of sand should i use to see what it does.

the turtles shell is 2.5 inches in size. is this too young to be fertile. it was kept with like ten other turts in the store of purchase

I see Murphy digging in the sand in his tank; I think he is just having fun.

i have river rocks in the bottom of mine (not small enough to eat though) and Squirt who is a boy digs constantly in his tank -- all the edges of the tank have been dug in toward the center so it looks like the tank has been trenched lol.

Besides this his new girlfriend is a Skull and cross bones that sits on the bottom that he drags around the tank (at all hours of the night) and flutters at constantly

My turtle loves digging through his river rocks, it's his #1 favourite passtime, other than fluttering at his own reflection! He also likes digging up this aquatic plant and moving it around his tank.
