Habitat - Indoor :: Possibly new tank! (possible re-siliconing)

The local pet store down here is moving to somewhere else and is selling some of their tanks.
They are selling a 55 gallon tank fo $50. They are going to call the manager to see if it's not leaking. Because the assistant manager said the he will use a leaky tank for a reptile tank, right now has a python in it.

They will see if it has a chipped peice of glass or if the silicone needs replacing. If it's the silicone we are just going to put new silicone in it. Anybody know how to re-silicone?

Also, I know you all say that you should get a canister, but for Christmas or with my b-day money I'm buting a cheap $40 H.O.T. filter that does 200-400 gph. I'll just have to clean it a lot. Also if I do get it it won't be until the end of September.

ive never had to re-seal a tank but i dont think it would be that hard

I think grey goose might have some experience with it. You could try and PM him. I'm not 100% sure if he's done it though.

Until I get the filter I'm not going to fill it more than halfway if I get it. But 25 gallon is better than 10 . And this may be the last tank he gets...so definitley will build an ATBA......Sorry I ment 10

a 55 gallon is nowhere near big enough for a full grown RES, even if it is filled all the way. Are you planning on giving him away at some point?

I knew you would say that..... I'm not going to give him away but he will be in that tank for at least another 5 years.

he will outgrow it before that though

Well it really depends on what happens in the future....If i get married soon after I get out of highschool, go far away to college, what job I'll have, ect.

If there is even a single problem with it, then skip it and get one during the $1 per gallon sale. $5 cheaper is not great, you'll still need to get silicone and spend time fixing it. Plus, if they are moving then you're not going to have a warranty either.

Wel they're moving about 5 miles down the road to where they've built about 60-70 stores in the past 2-3 years. I'm sure they will refund if something goes wrong within a month....also there may not be anything wrong with it...cross your fingers people!

Good luck since they said the 55 gallon tank may not be $55 during the Petco sale.

I hope this will work but Would this stand hold a 55 gallon tank? It's wide and long enough.

i dont know if that would hold it. it looks like its only supported in 2 spots

Well would it hold a 55 gallon tank with 20 gallons in it because that's what I'll be doing until I get a new filter.
