What can we do if we don't have a turtle tank thermometer to check the water temp? I have a digital strip on the fish tank I'm temporarily using but I read that those aren't accurate. All I have here at the house is digital thermometers for people and one of those old fashioned ones I think.. would those be okay to check the water temperature for now?

If you're just placing them in there to read the temp, then yeah it should be okay. Don't leave it in there though.

You should also use it to check the basking temp.

Thanks!

How do I do that for the basking temp? Just stick it under the light directly or where the turtle actually sits to bask?

Hover right above where the turtle would actually sit. Don't let it touch the dock because the dock is probably wet, which will give you a lower reading than the actual tempurature.
