I was wondering what I should get as a filter I'll probably end up with a H.O.T. filter since they are cheaper.

I want a filter tat is less than $70 if possible.

Add 100 gph to each one because I'm going to use my 20 gallon filter to whatever other filter I get.

i would go with the emperor 400 just becuase it does 400gph. im not an expert and H.O.T filters by any stretch of the word though

I have the Marineland Magnum 350 in my 55 gallon and it is amazing. I did pay more than $70 for it though, but I can say that it was so worth it. The water is 100% crystal clear all the time and it is very quiet.

Thanks that maks me feel better about hang on tank filters for bigger tanks.
Do you think if I asked Petsmart they would try and order the Emperor 400 when the order more stuff to restock, because I don't think that they have that size filter I just remembered that they have the brand but not sure on that kind of filter. Hope so!

How much is an AquaClear 110? That one does 500 GPH, and shouldn't be much more expensive than the 70 (like $15-20 more).

I had one like that, after I had it for a while (about a year) it didn't work very well anymore. The media would get dirty really fast and would affect the level of output. We were also using an in tank filter at the same time. While it was new it worked really well though!

I have experience with the Emperor 400, My mom has it on her 55 gal, in combo with a Penguin 350, for one 13" fish.

To be honest, the emperor 400 isn't that great. Alone in the 55 with the fish it didn't do a very good job at all. We were disappointed with it. But then we got a supplemental Marienland penguin 350, and the water is always crystal clear. 750gph of filtration really keeps water clear haha. Also, it seems as though the penguin 350 does a better job, and is quieter.

I would go with the canister if you can....

Now I'm deciding between the

But I'll probably end up getting the Marineland Penguin Bio-Wheel 350B H.O.T Because it's cheap and has 100 gph more than rcomended and if I add the TOP FIN 20 that I already have to it I will have a total of 450 gph. So do you think that is good?

Cool..the only thing that will suck is I'll have to buy to different filter cartridges. I'll probably just change out the big one every month and the small every 2 months or something...Also do the have like a tube or something that I could attatch to my filter intake so it would reach the bottom of the tank. Because it won't be filled all the way at first. And can I just set it on the floor until I get a stand? I have a concret slab under the house.

You can wash many times before you have to replace media.

I know the marineland 350 comes with an extension tube, It's in use on my moms 55, it has an optional upper intake as well on the length adder tube.

you can, but you wont be able to use a siphon or anything. if your ok with buckets...then go for it.
