Habitat - Indoor :: This is new

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

Post Posted: Fri Aug 29, 2008 11:09 pm   This is new

Alright, so i have been getting lazy with churning my sand since school started, and today I found something I haven't seen before.

Green algae is growing on the top of my sand under the edge basking dock.
Its weird, but interesting. I just got a new UVB(Repti glo 5.0% 26 watt compact) and setup my lighting different, so some of the UVB rays are not on the basking dock. Im thinking the new uvb, and new placement with some shining on the water has caused it to grow.

Check it out

and heres a recent picture of my tank, just before I changed my lighting, now there is two clamp lamps right next to each other rather than the tube behind it.

yowza! that is a pristine tank you have there chris!

anyways, your theory about the new algae (i supposed) on the top layer of sand is probably right.

You should probably try those algae balls some people have been talking about that attract the algae to them, other than that I could only think of an algae eater. Other than that your setup looks cool, I can't wait to get Crush's setup complete.

Thanks!

I'm not worried about the algae really, just thought it was interesting. I just need to moved the light around a bit still.

I've never had problems with algea in my tank. Also Howdo you keep it so clean?! After about 4 days my 10 gallon starts clouding up! Is it just because it's a smaller tank?

I got it off craigslist!

Fine filter pads, once a week or every two weeks maintenance. pretty much takes care of it haha.

Maybe now that I have a bigger tank and bigger filter it will take longer to become dirty.

The tank looks great, but that algae sure is weird. It's weird to think that algae can grow on it. :?

How often do you completely clean a tank that size. I need to know now that I have a bigger one.
