Habitat - Indoor :: Tank on the floor?

Hello!

I'm getting a 70 gallon tank today and I've been thinking about putting it on the floor because I can't find a decent stand for it.
How safe is it? What should I put under it? Any other suggestions are welcome

do you have a canister filter? if you do that would be the only problem i can think of with putting it on the floor since canister filters work with gravity

I've got my 125gal on my floor. Never had a problem. I've got a fluval 404 canister filter as well and it works fine. Just make sure the floor is level

Your tank should be fine on the floor as long as it's level and there are no gaps between the floor and the tank. If there are, you'll need to put something under there like cardboard or styrofoam so that the weight of the water doesn't crack the tank.

Before I got my stand, I had my tank on a piece of 1/2" plywood on a tile floor. Unless you have a concrete floor, I would use a piece of 1" MDF under the tank. Thinner materials will not distribute the weight as much as you might think, and ultimately the tank would just be resting on the floor joists.

I placed a 75 gallon right on the tile before and cracked the bottom glass. Luckily, I was able to fix it with marine grade silicone and it's been up for a month now with no leaks.
