Habitat - Indoor :: Question about heating kiddie pool

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum and have a quick question. I have had my red eared sliders for the past 8 years, and they got too big for my 65gal tank. So, I have made them their own room in my house with a kiddie pool. I went to the pet store to get a submersible heater to heat the water, and the only one they had that would work for this large amount of water would melt the kiddie pool, at least that is what the employee told me. It is a hard plastic kiddie pool. What would people recommend for a heater for this type of set up? Thanks!

have you looked at pond heaters? im not sure if it would melt it or not though

I used a regular stealth heater when I had a temporary rubbermaid container.
It's been a long time since I've been around a kiddie pool, but if it's the hard plastic kind, I'd imagine that would be safe with a stealth heater as well.

What kind of heater were you looking at? Some brands also come with heater guards which could ease your mind and add extra protection.

I saw one at the pet store with a heater guard, but it was too small to heat that amount of water. I will have to see if there's somewhere on line where i could buy one, or a couple, that can heat more than 30 gallons =O)

you can just stick it in a pvc pipe to insulate it from making contact with the plastic, and make a lot of holes in it to allow water flow

What kind of kiddie pool are you using? Is it a plastic shell or an inflatable one? I think the ideas mentioned are pretty good -- The Stealth heater, a heater guard and you might consider a filter with a built-in heater or one that attaches to your filter.

It's a hard plastic kiddie pool. I really like the idea about the PVC pipe! That'll be great. I'll also look into the Stealth heater. Thank you so much!
