You need to alter the kiddie pool to make it an appropriate container, but it can be used.

You need to make it so they can't get out. Then you need all the things you would use for a regular tank enclosure: basking area, lights, heaters, etc.

In a different topic, it was recommended to use a heater guard (purchased or home made).
