what causes foggy water. i had a complete water change a week ago and its foggy AGAIN!. i hate changing it because it takes hours out of my day and it wets my floor to the max. so why does the water turn foggy?

Well,it could be the food,if you use pellets that can dissolve,or if you use a filter then it oculd be the filter.If you don't use one then you definately need one,but if you do need one,you might need a new filter.

Well what size tank and filtration are you running?

a filter that is underrated for your tank, and your water will become "foggy" within a week.

or it could be new tank syndrome, but it depends on what filter you have?

Christbarnett is right.It does depend on the size of your tank,and the size of your filter,and it might be old and you need a new one.

i have a whisper 20. my tank seems pretty big for the filter but its all i can do. and plus i basically chanage the water every 3 weeks and 2 days or so

Isn't it true to clean your filter with used tank water to keep the good bacteria?

Maybe that could be the problem, your tank has to redo the cycle over agian.

when you do a water change of 50% or more and clean your filters at the same time you will get foggy water most of the time , thats what use to happen to me , the tank basically has to go through a cycle all over again, you kill most of the good bacteria when you do both at the same time. I have a 180 gallon tank and run 2 xp4 filters. when I clean the tank I only do 25% water change and clean one filter only, and a week later i will clean the other filter. when I clean my filter I take a bucket of tank water before the 25% water change and dump all my BIO MEDIA in. I have 4 extra baskets for my xp4's so I just put clean sponges, chemical media, fine filter floss, Then I take the bio rings right from the bucket of dirty tank water with all the crap on the rings that is all your good bacteria.
(And I let the filter fill with the tank water before the water change)-- and let the filter run for a few days= and then do a 25% water change. Then a week later I do the same for the other filter and no water change till a week later.( So I do a 25% water change about every two weeks!) never had a problem since.

If you only have one filter I would only clean the filter and not do a water change at the same time, I would wait a week or so then only do A 25% water change at most. Thats what works for me and never had water fogginess ever since. And if you do a complete cleaning I would save 1/2 of the water from the tank in a Rubbermaid clean out the tank and add the tank water back with de-chlorinated water and clean the filter a Week later. to try to preserve as much of the good bacteria as possible.

well, wen i clean the tank i scrub top to bottom in it. i clean the filter too. oh the tank i havnt measured how many gallons it is since i found the tank so ill have to take my time 1 day filling gallons of water to measure. id say its about 30-50 so ill have to get my setup upgraded

Just grab a tape measure and get the Length, Height, and Width.

ooh really convenient!. wow its 56 gallons and 72 liters. that means i need to upgrade that filter to the max. well either i get a job or start saving up because i really need to work on that (im only 14 and im on my own on this).

I would do a 30% water change every week, and every month do a complete tank cleaning.

that makes sense. now the water is as foggy as ever!. its like really dense and you can barely look through it. but my dad likes when i completely change it because he doesnt want to waste work, he wants to finish it. so yeah ill try and convince him
