what kind of plants do you guys use in your tank??

i want to decorate my tank more but all the fake plants in the stores look too fake..i want to at least make it look somewhat real for my 2 RES.i want to put in real plants but i'm afraid that they will eat it and it'll be a waste...does it matter?

There's a list of safe plants on the main site. The majority of us just use fake plants though.

Out of water, the plants look fake, but once inside, I don't really notice it anymore.

If you want to spend the money on real plants even though they'll probably be torn up, it's up to you. Right now in my RES's tank he's got all real plants---water hyacinth, duckweed, hornwort and anachris. The hyacinth and hornwort are from the stock tank he was in this summer. Rather than throw them out, they've been added to his tank until he either eats them or rips them up. He eats the duckweed and anachris. When the hyacinth and hornwort are gone, we'll switch over to some fake plants. The same thing will happen with two of my painteds' tank. I have one painted, however, who has had most of the same hornwort in his tank for over a year now.

There are some realistic-looking plastic plants if you look. Once in the water most fake plants tend to look better. Your turtles won't mind if they're not real.

I have plastic and a silk plant. The silk plant is a heck of a lot more realistic, but more expensive for a tiny plant also.

There are actually a lot of fake plants that look really nice. Try "fancy plants" and "jungle plants". All very realistic looking underwater and practical for hiding/resting.

I have some Anachris in my tank. It is quite cheap, I got like 10 stocks for $3 at my favorite pet store. The turtle does eat it but its worth it.

Do you need different lights for the real plants?

If you want them to grow well, they do make special lighting for plants, but honestly, they probably won't have a chance to get established in a turtle tank.

I was going to build a "plant cage" or make a separator in my tank kind of like squishy?

I have a lot of hornwort free-floating in the tank. The turtle doesn't eat it, but it gets kinda torn up from him swimming around. The plants seem to be doing fine, though.

Well,I use fake,plastic plants,because some real plants can hurt them.I got mine from PetSmart.
