Hello All -

I recently purchased this lighting fixture and was curious as to what your opinion would be? I have a 35 gallon bow corner tank. If not this unit could you recommned a similar canopy that can take compact fluorescents?

I wanted to have a clean look and thus went with a canopy. I do know if i need to put two UVB bulbs in there and need your advice. I have a seperate clamp light I plan on using for heating of the basking area unless i can get away with a heat bulb in this fixture and elminate the clamp light.

if you can manage to get the uvb bulb that you put in that fixture over the basking area, and also the heat source in the same area (maybe on the clamp lamp), you should be fine. The thing about turtles is they mostly require the heat and uvb light to be in a certain point over the basking area. that lamp is useable, but designed more for a lizard or other reptile cage which may require more all-over lighting.

I'm using a mercury vapor bulb (uva/b + heat) in a clamp lamp, it's working pretty well for me. This also leaves the top of the tank open for whatever i need to do.

i would not use it because you would have no way of adjusting how close or far your UVB light would be from the basking area. the only way you could do it would be to lower water level and with a 35 gallon tank you need all the water you can get in the tank.

a UVB bulb would not work for that size tank. since they are so strong they should only be used on tanks at least 50 gallons

You mean MVB.
