Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

So for Christmas my 2 turtles got a new canister filter, a new heater, and a new floating dock. One good thing about the canister filter no water noise anymore! We can actually have our TV at a normal volume without having to try to hear it over the hang on tank filters. They love the new dock and the heater works great! Bad side... new tank syndrome and green water now!! I had this before when I first set up the tank and it took me like 2-3 weeks to clear it up. Now its back again because of the new filter I am assuming and it is driving me crazy! The algae fix isn't even working this time on the green water. I know this is a waiting thing but I am not a patient person  Just had to get that out, feeling a little better now

the green water sounds like and algae bloom. the best way i know to get rid of it is with a UV sterilizer.

Did you keep the media from the old filters? Usually you want to use that to seed a new filter with bacteria by squeezing out the old sponge onto the new one.

Daniel3507 - I will try that, I had just always used algae fix and it worked but its not working now. Thanks.

thegrandpoohbah - No, I didn't keep the media from the old filters and I know to at least soak the new in the old water but just didn't do it, I forgot until after I put it all together and got it up and running  . I just made it more frustrating for myself. Thanks.

the UV sterilizers can be somewhat expensive but they do a great job of taking care of an algae bloom. they also kill parasites and bacteria so i think they are worth it. if you decide to go that route be sure and get one that can handle the GPH your filter puts out
