Habitat - Indoor :: Has algae on RES shell been known to harm ?

My res has quite a bit of algae oh his shell. Will it harm him in any way? I plan to clean it tomorrow, but just wanting to make sure that algae in general won't cause any health problems.

I would think that the algea would die when it dries up from basking.

My turt was full of algae when I got her, she was in horrible conditions, but she's fine six months later.

Algae on the shell won't hurt (in the wild it often acts as camoflage), but it is good to remove it periodically---it could mask other shell problems.
