after chris's post about hard plumbing his fluval i got to thinking. well i was going to go with pvc painted black and don't have all the fittings in my garage. what i do have is a ton of copper scrap. so here's my questions, first would the solder hurt the turtle? lead free of course and i'd clean the pipe before putting it in. i'm also unsue of weather to use 1/2" or 3/4" my hoses are 5/8" i.d. and i'm using a xp3. i'm thinking bigger would be better as long as i didn't loose to much power on the intake or outflow. thank you.

I think it should be OK, though I'm not sure about the size either. Anything used for potable water shouldn't be an issue.

i'm going to give it a try this weekend with 3/4" copper. i'm hoping the flow isn't changed to much with the bigger i.d. of the pipe. i've saw where people have used 1/2" pvc and flow was never mentioned so i'm shooting for the best with 3/4" yet if it fails i'll try 1/2" i need to move both the input and output about 12" out toward the end of the tank. i'll post pics of the process.
