Habitat - Indoor :: In desperate need of a new filter.. 65 g tank pics included

Hey Guys,

So its been about 6 years and a half already since Ive been with this lovable little guy and its finally time to switch filters. I find the water has been becoming too green lately and will occur within a week of fully changing the water. I am currently in University away from home so it is obviously very tough for my sister to clean the tank every 2 weeks or so. I am back now for the rest of the summer and want to lighten her load when im gone so i need a filter that will keep the tank fairly clean for 4-6 weeks before a full water change. Ive been looking around and seeing as the xp3 and fluva 404 filters have been a popular choice but ive heard that the fluva 404 does not come with the tubing?? please correct me if im wrong but i need a filter that will do it all and i dont mind spending $100-$200 if its going to do the job. Ive never posted any pics so i decided to take a couple of snap shots. These pictures were from december but the setup has not changed and its much cleaner then it is now.. lol. Hope you guys enjoy and hopefully you can suggest a filter that would ultimately limit algae from growing as that seems to be the biggest problem.

And for more information the tank it is a 65g tank, my turtle has grown to approx 12 inches just in turtle shell length and the tank is setup in a closed room with no windows so that cancels out of the equation for the unexpected algae growth due to other sunlight.

If theres any more things i can think of ill let you guys now but please let me know what you think i should purchase. Thanks

If the Fluval 404 is new, it does come with hoses. If you buy a used one, you can purchase hoses, either from a pet store, or you can use clear vinyl tubing that you can get at a hardware store.

If you're willing to shill out the extra dough though, I'd recommend a Fluval FX5. I've got two myself. I still do partial water changes monthly, but it makes changing the water a breeze, since you can drain the tank using the filter.

Since now you've got the summer home, I would recommend maybe upgrading your turt's home a bit too. If you build an above tank basking area (atba), you can fill the tank up with water, and more water means you have to clean it less often. Plus I'm sure your gal would love the extra swimming room There's lots of ideas for atbas on the site, so see if any would work for you.
