Habitat - Indoor :: What kind of media to use in a Canister filter?

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

I have a FX5 and I use Biocarb, Pre filter, Biomax and fine water polishing pads. Top tray is Biocarb, second tray is Biomax and bottom tray is pre filter under fine water polishing pads. What do you guys use with your canister filters? And how is your media setup?

It sounds like you've got things a bit mixed up there. The prefilter should be nearest to the top, since it only filters out the biggest junk. I've got prefilter, but I'm not happy with it. I added some coarse filtration pads under the prefilter in the top basket. The polishing pads are good on the bottom, but you may find they'll get clogged quickly.

In my FX5s I have:
Top: Prefilter + coarse filter pads
Middle: Carbon + bioballs
Bottom: Biomax

hmm I don't have an FX5, I'm using a 403 and a XP3. I kinda followed the 403's manual of having things setup like

Top - Sponge / Biocarb
Mid - Biomax
Bottom - Prefilter

My XP3 is similar but I have the
Top - polishing pads and chemstars
Mid - Biomax
Bottom - Prefilter

It works so akaghettoraver should be okay, probably those polishing pads should be moved as they do clog like Bulldog said.

yeah they do clog, but I just replace them once a month, I guess I could just stop using them all together. That would save some money:)
