Habitat - Indoor :: basking area temp thermometer? + other stuff

So how do I regulate the temp on the basking area.. Im going to go buy some stuff for a tank I will be getting here in a few days. Im getting a free 20g tank to start with and in a few weeks I will be getting me a 50g tank for a lil 2in RES..

So I know I need to buy 2 clamp lights with a reg light for heat and a UVB repiglo or whatever in 5.0

Filtration not sure on since im upgrading to a 50g but I cant spend a whole lot right now..

Thermometer/heater for the water and basking area??? this and the filter are when I get so confused.. Since Im upgrading to a 50g before to long what heater should I get for the water. Also my thermometers that I need how do I get one for the basking area to regulate the temp there?

You can vary the Basking Heat temps by using different types of bulbs and adjusting the distance the bulb is from the basking surface. I think a 75 watt incandscent Spot at 9" will produce 90-95 Degree Temps. I think some use 60 watt household incandescent for heating. At what distance I don't knoww.

As far as water heater it's suggessted that 3-5 watts per Gallon. So 20 Gallons = needs 60-100 Watt Heater. It's best to get one with an adjustable thermostat. I'd try ti buy one that I can use in both the 20 and the 50.

I use an IR thermometer for my Basking area. You can get them from Harbor Freight.
