Hurray, I finally got their house set up nicely. Next stop is a new filter (old one crapped out), and new thermometers. But before that I have to get that 40 gallon tank...

About the sand dollars, I found them at petdiscounters.com, and you can't leave them in the tank whole. My girls wouldn't take a whack at it until I broke it into pieces. Also, the center is too hard for them too eat. Sand dollars are made of the same thing as cuttlebone.

I'm so happy with that basking dock. It's nine inches in diameter. I just have it wedged in place, and I'll use the tubing later on when I get the bigger tank.

Thank you, my girls started using it right away.

It's a little hard for them to climb on, but, that's why I have the big vine there... I keep trying to wedge it deeper in the water, but it always pops back up. Whatever, I see both of them up there right now, so, obviously they can make it.

They sorta float for a little while, then eventually sink.

What's sorta neat is, they are able to be eaten no problem, but a little on the crunchier side than cuttlebone is. You get a sense of their jaw pressure when they munch on them, cause you can actually hear my turtles biting the little pieces. It's so cool sounding ^___^

Just a few minutes before the crunching, they did something really cute. They love to stare at each other so much, and after a really long stare, they both touched noses.

Speaking of staring... Ya know that other thread I made, about the way they chase my fingers and stuff? I suspected that Typhoon liked to copy me sometimes. So, lately, when I watch them swim around, I'll tilt my head to the side. Something that you would easily notice. Guess what Typhoon is doing? Stares at me, and tilts her head. She's never done it before to me, and since I've been doing it, she's cocked her head like, four or fives times today. I think the best it how she tilts her head mirror image to the way I do.

I could spend the whole day interacting with them and not get bored.

i use to find those all the time in honduras. if you break them, theres like this star shaped thing inside. but they have alot of splinters which sucks and hurts

Yeah... I noticed the splintery-ness of the center. Glad I decided to break it up.

I thought it was odd that they weren't taking a whack at it yet... Then I remembered people tend to break up cuttlebone. I also figured if they saw me drop it in the water, they'd get that they were supposed to eat it.

Now the sand dollar bits are almost completely gone. Hurricane ate most of them, but I've seen Typhoon eat some too, so I know they've both had their chance.

You watch, (theorectically speaking), the next sand dollar I put in, will be mostly devoured by Typhoon. She's the boss in that tank, and once she decided she likes a food, she stops putting up with Hurricane completely.
