Habitat - Indoor :: Basking Area Thermometer

Could anybody suggest a good thermometer to place in the basking area that would read the temperature? Do I use a humidity gauge or just a plain thermometer?

You don't need a humidity gauge.
I just use my zoo-med digital thermometer. I put the probe on something roughly turtle-height (a turtle works well) and leave it there for at least 5 minutes.

You prolly won't recommend this... But I used to use one of those medicinal thermometers, like the one when you check your temperature. We had a super old one we never used back at my old apartment... I don't think I packed it... In any case, I got some really good readings with it.

And I recommend not leaving a thermometer unattended with the turtles. My digital thermometers are covered in bite marks

So I don't need to have the thermometer in water? I just need it to give me the temperature of the basking area.

You don't necessarily need to leave a thermometer in the water. You can use the same thermometer for both basking and the water.
I have a stick on thermometer for quick ref on my tanks. I only measure the basking temp when I change the position of the lamps, put a new bulb in, or if they aren't basking.

Lol, Hurricane likes the thermometer I was using a lot, and just stares at it. Typhoon just shows no interest. Cane hasn't taken a whack at it yet, but, she likes to nip new things so I'm sure she will, eventually.
