Habitat - Indoor :: filter question

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

I am going to purchase a 75 gallon wide tank. My question is this: I already have an xp1 and would like to still use it.
Would it be ok to purchase another xp1 and put at different ends or would it be better to upgrade to a larger filter.?

You can always use another filter on a tank. You could get a bigger and better filter for the other filter though. You dont have to stick with the xp1. :)

Check the "gph" of the filter. It should be at least 300gph (that's 4 water cycles per hour) to be good for a 75 gallon.
If it's too small, you can always sell on CL or Ebay and buy a bigger one.

I would check ebay to see if there is some resale value. 2 filters are twice the work :)

Ta-mi -- My rule about water exchange is a minimum of 5 times per hour. More would be better. Some keepers have been shorted by using a mfg tank sizing to their turtles peril. Tank sizing comes from fish people and is not nearly large enough for turtles. Use the gph to get the flow up. m.

Thanks I opted to use my xp1 and I then got a fish filter for 70 gallon tank. Because I wanted the water fall effect.
So far so good.

Ta-mi -- How many gpg does the filter for a 70 gallong tank pump? Did you purchase it for the tank size or the gph exchange? m.

The filter does 300 gph. Plus my xp1 does 250 gph.

Ta-mi -- If you can get your bacteria going you should have plenty of water flow at 550 gph. Good Luck!!

Thanks. I kinda cheated a bit. When I set up the new tank I shift 20 gallons from the established tank and kept the
Xp filter media that way the good bacteria had a good head start. I'm sure that's not the best way to do it but it shortens the recycling time.

That is not cheating. It is exactly what you should have done.
