Habitat - Indoor :: Heater?? (sorry...long)

I purchased a heater a while back, but it's been so hot we haven't needed it. Today we had to break down and turn on the AC, so I put the heater in the tank...last minute I got worried about totally submerging it so I looked it up online just to make sure. Well, I found one website advertising a smaller version as being submersible, but not fully submersible.

I looked the exact one I have up again (100 watt) and it says fully submersible.

They are made by the same manufacturer...they look the same...how can one be fully submersible and the other not? I took it out before I put Theodore and Jasmine back in, and will wait to make sure before I try it again.

Also, will they be ok during the night without their basking light for heat with the AC on. The water is still between 76 and 78...air temp around the same.

I'm probably just being neurotic, but I don't want our little guys getting sick, or electrocuted...eeekkkks!

The last time I posted we were just getting everything to set up a tank for them. They are in their new home now. I will post pics soon.

Hmmm...the first one is a 25-watt heater (it does say in the description that it has a waterprof seal), that isn't included in the series in the second link...If you really want to make sure it's waterproof, I'd call Hagen and ask.

If the air and water temp will remain around 75F even with the AC on, there shouldn't be a problem. However, I'd make sure they're not in the line of any vents or cool breezes. If it were me, I'd cover the tank at night when the AC's on.

Thanks Marisa...I just covered the tank with towels, and will call hagen tomorrow. I would like to lower the AC some more, but I don't want to chill the little ones. Once I get the heater installed I may drop the AC a bit more, and keep the tank covered at night....they sleep in the water until I turn on their lights anyway, so they should be o.k I guess. Until then we will all sacrifice and suffer...lol. I'm just so worried about them getting sick since we don't really have a reptile vet that speaks English. The last time I called around to the English speaking vets the only reptile vet they knew was studying in the USA. However, my vet said he would prescribe whatever I needed, but I would rather have a professional diagnosis and treatment.
