Habitat - Indoor :: HELP! Dark Green Algae Water.

Hello,

I have a 50 Gal. TruVu with two 7 month red eared sliders inside. I'm having an algae problem. The water is dark green and it's impossible to see inside the tank. I tried treating it with Algae Clear but it doesn't work. I tried changing the water (removed 75% of the water) every two days but it would turn green almost instantly. I have a Fluval Canister filter that runs 24/7. The sun shines on the tank for about 6 hours a day. The turtle's (Shellmo and Snoop) haven't had clear water for about 4 months.

Any ideas on how to get rid of the green water?

Any tips would be GREATLY appreciated.

Check out UV Sterilizers. They're a little pricey but they do the job very well I've heard.

Your tank should not get "any" direct sunlight "at all".Move it or put up a shade.

Yeah, that's definitely from the sunlight. Try to cut down on the light getting in.

Way too much sun light hitting that tank. It will also cause temperature swings, so I would try to find a way to block it.

The sun on that tank will warm the water, which will also encourage algae to grow. Either move the tank or draw the blinds/curtains if the tank is in front of a window.

I'll have to move it to a place that doesn't receive much sunlight. After i find a good place to put the turtle tank, what else should i do? Should i treat it with algae clear?

Avoid chemicals wherever possible. If the tank is in the right spot, algae shouldn't be too much trouble.

Just clean the tank with water and a brush, refill it, and keep it away from the sun.

Is your tank being kept outside?? The reflection on the tank in the picture looks like you're keeping it on some sort of balcony or patio.

If you are, it's very dangerous to keep a glass tank outside, the temperature of the water can change very quickly and easily, which is dangerous to your turtles health as they can't regulate their own body heat.

Try moving the tank indoors.
