so here is the tank.. pretty much finished.. and the water is really clearing up.. thanks for all the comments.....

is there any links to UNIQUE TANK BUILDS? I am thinking right now about converting a 10x10 room into a turtle habitat... building out the walls with water falls into the tank and not a square tank.. a tank like a pool.. prob around 200 gallons.. also incorporating my saltwater tank into the rock build out.... it would be like a zoo setting...... deep water and shallow water.. also for the salt water tank I would have a logoon area for small fish... along with my reef coral......... has anyone ever done this... this is something I am thinking real hard about.. any pros or cons on the idea?

the salt water and the fresh water would be seperate systems.. but look as thought they are one..... does that make since? I want people to be amazed when they walk into the room..... plant life and spot lights on points of interest...

so if you know of anyone who has a set up like this.. I would like to see it... otherwise I will be the first.....


I am not one for the 25 gallon tank with a single rock in it.... if you know what I mean.... has to have mega personality.. Cope

Cope, that setup is very nice! If you don't mind my asking, how much did it cost to build your acrylic tank? If you have any links to sites with directions and specs, I'd GREATLY appreciate it.

Papo: thank you for that link... I have seen that one and it is nice...
Bover: the plexi is 1/4 acrylic... 4'x8' piece cost about 100.00
I cut the pieces on a table saw and used weld-on 16 to glue it together. took about a day to build..
the stand is made from 6 pieces of 2x4x 8' cut down... I glued and screwed the parts together... and I used a 1/2" piece of plywood for the floor under the tank itself... I also used some of that stuff you put in your tool box.. kinda a squishy black carpet.......

be sure you have some clamps while you are gluing the acylic...

be sure you get..CAST ACYLIC... it is stronger...

just think up you idea and then go for it..... the size on this one is 48 x 30 x 17" deep... and the water level is 12" deep.... I built an internal over flow and it works real nice...

Looks great! I would probably get rid of the gravel/pebbles. And is that ABS supporting the basking area? There's sort of a mixed debate about the use of ABS (compared to PVC) since it is not used with potable water.

I think the largest custom tank I've seen is a complete basement wall. There was a link posted here a while ago... but it was for a fish hobbyist, not a turtle keeper. There are also a couple of outstanding custom built ponds, though they probably require some deep searching to find them.
