Habitat - Indoor :: How fast does your water evaporate/dissapear?

I have a 20g tank, and when I filled it up I marked the water level with a black marker. I notice that at the end of each day, and especially after a few days, the water level falls by several centimeters. Today, after not putting more in for 2 days, it's about 2/3" down from when I filled it. The tank was brand new when I got it, and I haven't found any leaks or even puddles.

I know water evaporates, and when I sick my arm in there to resettle plants, move rocks, grab the turtles, etc, some water comes out with me.

I'm wondering, how much of your water dissapears?

I have a 20gal also and though I haven't measured it, I too lose a lot of water. I have a hang-on-tank filter (which i hate, ps) that i think contributes greatly to my loss of water. What sort of filter do you have?

It's a pain for sure -- maybe i should measure it too.

Wow, that's pretty fast! Where do you live? Perhaps where you live has very low
humidity? I lose that much in about a week's time.

Kemul, I live directly on the beach on an island, so when it's humid it is very humid. However, my house is kept at a crisp 63F, so maybe that has something to do with it.

Korey, I do have a hang-on filter which eats a lot of water, that may be taking some up. I wonder how much water I actually pull out of the tank when I put my hands in there, I try to drip back into it, but I'm always all wet

I add water every so often too. When I get a new rosie red minnow, or aquatic plant, I put all the water from the bag in the tank.

I have a 70 gallon tank and I have it 3/4 full. I have to top up the water twice a week when I do water changes.

I think it happens to everyone ^^ When I do water changes I take out a bucket or two but I always add in more than that to compensate for what's evaporated.

I probably lose an inch of water every three days. I'm not sure what that equates to and I'm too tired to do the math right now.

Because turtle tanks don't have lids, they tend to lose more water by evaporation than a fish tank would. It's just something you have to remember to top up.

I have a 135g with a PVC overflow leading to a 10g refugium. I lose about 5 gallons of water a week from evaporation. Those are my measurements from this past summer, in the winter it's a bit lower at about 3.5-4 a week.

I have a 125 gallon filled to the top. I top it off every month or so and I end up adding maybe 20 gallons.

My 300 gal gets 10+ gals every two weeks. I use a FX5 filter but don't use a lid. The setup is in our maintenance office, so the air is very dry since we always have the air conditioner on 24/7 365 or 366 days a year. It stays warm down here all year long.
