I try to use a water conditioner either after cleaning the tank or adding water. Our water is very hard because of the minerals. I usually place my two RES is a tank outside while cleaning/fillling and wait an hour or two while the filter circulates everything around. There have been times when I didn't add the water conditioner and it didn't have any effect on the turtles. I have used several brands either specifically for reptiles or fish. I am currently using Reptisafe by Zoo Med.

Without getting rid of the chlorine, either by letting the water sit overnight or using a water conditioner, your turtle can get irritated eyes.

I never use water conditioner on my water and I never have a problem. I only do small (<5 gallon) water changes, usually.

I don't use water conditioners either. I feel it is a waste of money. RES do very well and a hardy aquatic turtles. But if there is alot of colorine in your water then maybe you could use them. But I would look into a brito water filter that could be a good option. Good luck

I have a saltwater tank that requires RO water so I have an RO filter and just use that water :)
