Habitat - Indoor :: Need tank advice

This is going to be my first time having a turtle as a pet and I'm looking for some advice. This site has been really helpful.

My question is:

I have a 35-40 gallon octagon shaped fishtank, would it be possible/practical to create a set up with that design that would be functional for the turtle and easy enough to clean?

I've seen a bunch of pictures, never of anything with an octagon tank. Thanks for the help. All advice is appreciated.

Octagon tanks are usually tall, and not very wide, correct? Tanks that are long and wide are generally better than tall tanks for RES. It might be alright to set up the octagon tank as a temporary tank, but I think you'd want to switch to a standard type tank pretty quick.

if its wide which im guessing its not it should be fine but if its tall it would not be good for your turtle

Octagon not good for turtles as others stated.....
You want the biggest perimeter possible for turtles so they have more room to swim.

Agreed. BUT you could always use the octagon tank to breed an endless supply of feeder fish for your turts

Boy, I remember someone posted a picture of a turtle in a octagon tank (I think it was on King Snake) and there were tons of flaming responses.

Great looking tanks, but as stated, wider = better
