Habitat - Indoor :: Canister vs. Power Filter

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

I have power filters for both my 10 gallon and my 40 gallon tanks and I am satisfied with them.
What type of filter would you recommend for a 100 gallon tank? Is a canister filter better than a power filter?
From what I can see power filters are for tanks up to 100 gallons so if I was to stick with them I would have to get two.

I use power filters for 55gallon down.

I tried it on a 75gallon. Once you hit 75 gallon it doesnt cut it it anymore. I was using two of the largest power filters like you want to try and found it just doesnt cut it. Canister filters just work better for larger tanks.

Thanks. That's what I was thinking too.

Are canister filters noisy? Cuz the power ones make loud splashing noises due to the waterfall and I've always had to modify it a little to reduce the noise. This shouldn't be the problem with canisters since they have an input and output hose, right?

My Magnum 350 canister filter is almost silent. I have another tank in the room with a waterfall so I have to put my hand on the canister from time to time to make sure it's still running!

Personally i think power filters should never be used for turtles, but that's just my opinion. Canisters do a way better job and you have to clean less often.

^ and when you DO have to clean it, it isn't such a production to take things apart. Much easier.

w-peace -- For a 100 gallon tank I would use an FX5. There is a lot of water and a lot of filtration.
