Habitat - Indoor :: Canopy question... Anyone with a large tank, canopy plz read

Something I dont think I've ever thought about but what would you say the average canopy weight would be that most aquariums can support that aren't fixed to the stand but rely entirely on the tank to hold em up ?

I know it can depend on glass thickness because the larger the tank the thicker the gladd but still... there has to be a limit before the tank just says F it, you got to much water in me and now this canopy on top... I'm flooding your house !

Ok, but the canopy I jave is a full size canopy with two swing doors... I'll have to weight it on my bathroom scale (lol) but I'd guess it to be about 40-50lbs minimum.

My 75g tank has about 65-70g of water with ~ 15# or so ATBA on top.

I think the nly way I might get an accurate weight for my canopy is to disassemble it into its unique pieces and then try to weigh em. Other then the weight of the canopy I'm pretty confident about everything else working out ok.

That guys canopy about the same size as mine, freestanding as well (supported by the aquarium only) and seems to be about the same weight, cant say for sure though because I havent weiged mine yet. But goin by size alone I'm thinkin I might just be ok with the canopy because one thing to consider that just hit me is that the weight of the canopy is spread out over the entire length / width of the tank so the weight should be evenly distributed.

Does a neighbor have a scale you could borrow? Then, just don't fill the aquarium with an equal wt. of water to compensate for the excess wt. of the canopy, if it seems to weigh too much to some degree.

I would call All Glass tomorrow. They build aquariums and sell great aquarium silicon glue.... have a great tech department. I would ask their tech about your setup and get his educated opinion. Great tech department. I would trust their opinion, and they are the type to tell you if they don't know, whom to ask next. Couldn't hurt. Does that help?

I had another soothing thought. 40-80 lb canopy = only ~5-10 gallons water. No biggy. And, like you say the weight is relatively evenly distributed vertically over the glass and oak supports. I don't think she's gonna blow, Captain!
