Habitat - Indoor :: Looking to buy plate glass

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

I keep looking at all these different types of enclosures and how much they cost. It seems like there is some kind of pact these manufacturers have.

I would like to make one glass man happy by giving him more business than he can handle.

I just can't seem to nail down a site with decent pricing on plate glass. I even went locally to a glass man. It's almost cheaper to build a tank made out of gold.

Any suggestions on where to look for decent pricing on plate glass?

www.glasscages.com sell sheets of glass, although I can't imagine what shipping would cost though...

I have a plastics dealer near me that I buy my sheets of plexiglass from for pretty cheap (the last time I bought from them it was less than $100 for an 8'x4' sheet of 1/4" thick plexiglass). But the don't sell glass (and I wouldn't use plexi for turtles...I don't know why mentioned them?).

I had to replace a broken glass panel on one of my terrariums once. I had to call around to several places before I was able to find a reasonable price. The first 4 or 5 places I called were going to charge me anywhere from $60 to $120 for a 4in x 11in piece of 3/8" thick glass, straight cut (no smoothing) and I'd have to wait 2 to 3 weeks since they had to order it from someone else. Well, I finally was able to find the guy who actually had the glass and worked it himself. He was able to do it for $12 with polished edges and in only a couple of days. So it pays to keep calling around until you can find the person who actually stocks the glass (the guy who sells to the retailers).
