Feeding and Nutrition :: Chinese Spinach

Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

My mom just bought this vegetable called amaranth, or known as chinese spinach. Does anyone know the nutrition value of this?

I gave a tiny bit to Serra and she started splashing very eagerly for more!

I know I know, buy veggies that you guys are familiar with, but I want to know if she is able to eat it without it being harmful to her health.

lol my mom usually goes to her special supermarket.

I've had her since march 3

I just searched more about it....

It said it contains some oxalic acid but it is high in iron, calcium, and other vitamins. It said to boil the the vegetable in boiling water to remove the acid.

well I guess boil it to remove the oxalic acid (I wonder if you can do that with normal spinnach too?) and feed it to her very rarely until you are more certain about it.

Boiling would probably also diminish the other nutrients as well. I think a little for variety is fine.

Safdar, rather than boil, you can steam the carrot lightly to make it easier for Tito to eat. Or, you can just get a peeler and make thin peels from a raw carrot for your turtle to rip apart. Foods that are high in Vit A retain a good portion of the vitamin even if they're lightly cooked.

Make pieces really small for him. Try very thin peels of carrot so he can rip them apart.
