Feeding and Nutrition :: Anachris

Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

So yesterday I picked up two beautiful bundles of anachris from the pet store and plopped it into a separate plant tank to grow. later that evening i found a bunch of new tank friends stuck to the walls of the bowl. how do i get rid of these snails before i feed it to the turtles? i know the calcium is good for them but the snails are soo tiny they'd get caught in my filter and that's positively no fun

I think certain fish are good at eating those snails. If I remember correctly I think the Clown Loach is one of them.

I remember there being a lot of sites dedicated to this type of topic. I like option #2 here http://www.drhelm.com/aquarium/snails.html and they also have preventive tips.

i want more snails! I can't seem to keep them long enough to breed! Outside the racoons eat them, and inside the turtles eat them. Urgh.

Yes it's good to wash the plants before you put them in the tank to get rid of unwanted hitchhikers like snails and worms. It's good to hold them under running water for awhile to get them clean. But most people don't know to do that. I didn't. Just like you, when I got the first bunch of anacharis I put it in the tank and then read about it on here. Of course, I got snails but since Spot likes to eat them it worked out ok.

One way to get them out of the filter pad is a hammer :P or you could put the filter in your sink and put some hot water in then switch it on , sounds cruel but its the only thing I can think of.
I hope I get snails on my plants.

My brother insisted on not washing them and threw some in his 46 gallon bowfront..no snails but he was lucky I guess. I always wash the plants before putting them in..I'de puke if I had a snail infestation.
