Feeding and Nutrition :: feeding in separate container

My turts are about 3mos old. When can I start feeding them in a separate container? I've tried it a few times but they didn't eat.

I waited about 2-3 months after I got my turtles to feed them in a seperate conatiner. Mine are around 5-6 months old now. Just keep trying to feed them in there, at least one time a week. They will eventually become brave enough to eat in there. Also, I do have 1 turtle that won't eat if he sees me. You could try putting the food in the container then leave the room for like 5 minutes then come back and see if he really can eat in there or not.

I was curious about this too. How do you heat the water of the feeding container? (Don't mean to take over the board, just curious:P)

I just fill the container with water from the tank so they won't get stressed. Then just top off the tank while they are eating.

I fill the water with water from my sink. I make it a bit warmer than the tank. I guess they eat a lot better when the water is warmer.

I fed my RES in a separate container from the time I got him (as a hatchling). If you're going to try to feed in a separate container, be consistent---don't feed once in the container and the rest of the time in the tank. They need to become used to the container being the place to eat. Try using a container that's not clear, but a light color so the food will contrast with it more and be easier for them to see.
