today when i put my turtles food in he went towards an algae waffer for my pleco and started eating it

They'll eat just about anything they can fit in their mouths. If it's fish food, I don't think it will hurt him to eat it. The fish can eat left over turtle food and whatever else drops to the bottom of the tank and he should be ok too.

My pond turts eat the algae that hangs into the water from the waterfall frequently. It doesn't hurt them & I figure they eat it plenty in the wild.
