I was just wondering if maybe they're too small to eat live prey.

You can put them in the tank, but your turtle may lack experience to catch all but the slowest rosies. But it's good training :)
Just remember, fish are meant to be a treat, and shouldn't be fed more than once a month.

Yay! Thanks! How long can the rosy reds stay in the tank if the turtles don't eat them within a couple of days? Should I feed them?

They can stay in until they're eaten. I never feed the rosies in my tank... they munch on random food debris and actually help keep the tank a little cleaner.

One of my turtles ate rosies when she was 2 inchs long. The fish looked bigger than she did! It was nice then because a dozen lasted 8 months. Sigh. now a dozen would last about 8 minutes.
