Hey guys!
I own a music forum and I know how much members hate answering the same questions over and over. I've searched, I really have, but I can't find the exact answers to my questions. So here goes...
My turt is approx. 2 inches and was found in the wild (I'm guessing she's 3 - 4 months old).
She seems fine, except I think I see a tiny bit of pyramiding in two spots on the top. I know this is bad, but I can't find out why it's bad (I read here it could kill, but why?). So I know too much feeding & protein can cause that.
At this point, I'm feeding her everyday, the amount the size of her head.
I typically feed the Zoo Med hatchling formula pellets and give the HBH Turtle Bites Veggie Pellets a few times a week, and those tiny dried shrimp a few times a week (maybe 2 or 3 tiny dried ones). I also offer cuttlebone (small bits w/ backing removed) but she hardly ever eats them and will go out of her way to avoid them.
Am I doing okay or harming her? Too much protein? Too little calcium?
Fruits and veggies:
I may be overdoing it because I read here fruit should be a special treat maybe only once a twice a month. Yes or no? I've been giving her fruit maybe 2 times a week.
I also have given her raspberries and blueberries, which she LOVES! I didn't see those listed as okay on the approved list. So, are they okay? She also loves banana and melon which I see is okay.
Why is more than 1-2 times a month a bad idea?
For veggies, again, maybe they are given 1 -2 times a week, in tiny amounts. She really likes broccoli and yellow squash, which I didn't see on the approved list. Are these okay? I have offered dandelion leaves and carrots in the past but she doesn't seem to like them.
When should I switch to all veggies one day, protein the next? Is that when she's closer to 1 year (and I know after a year I should feed every other day, right?).
So please let me know what I'm doing that is good and what is bad. She is growing, and looks healthy to me.
I'm open to all suggestions and I appreciate any feedback.
Thanks!
