Just had to share this becasue I was so amazed:
in addition to 3 outdoor pond turtles (2 RES, 1 Red belly S) we have 4 little guys who we rescued from a 99cent store (being sold illegally) They are each about 2-2.5 inches long.
So the 4 little ones go outside in a big plastic bin on sunny days over the weekends to get some real sun, more space and adventure.
Since last weekend it seems mosquitoes have been breeding like crazy in their outdoor bin - there were probably several hundred larvae in the bin when I went to put the little guys outside.
I thought the little ones might eat them, so I left them in there and watched - the turtles actually seemed scared of all the wiggly things and I thought I'd give them some time and dump the larvae if it seemed they weren't having fun after a while.
So a few hours later - the mosquito larvae were GONE!!!! Absolutely GONE!!! I was hoping they would munch some, but they were anhiliated! The bin went from a seething mass of larvae to a bin of clear water and turtles wondering why these little things weren't on the menu every day!
So I just had to share - I know, I'm sure they were Way over fed yesterday, but I had no idea they would or could eat them ALL!
