And are you implying that a parrot's life is more valuable than a turtle's life just because a parrot is more expensive? Not cool.

lol i certainly am not implying that a parrots life is more important than a turtles they are very equal.

i was merely wondering why it was ok to give a parrot a cuttlebone with the back on but not a turtle when people clearly pay more for their parrots than their turts.

just seemed strange thats all. i thought if it was bad for one it should in theory be bad for the other. but never mind. sod the cost. i love my turt he/she is wickid.

The backing is to prevent the cuttlebone from falling apart while attached to the cage. Some have said that it is a natural part of the cuttle fish, however I am skeptical.

When you buy the cuttlebone for aviary use it seems to always have the 'backing' on it, although this is what many people buy because it tends to be slightly cheaper or more readily available.

We just bought Zoo Med Turtle Bone (for the 1st time) because it specifically did not have the backing on it, which is apparently a pain to remove from what I have read in other posts.

Considering that it is still pretty cheap, I intend to avoid the stuff with the backing. Both Petsmart and Aquarium Services (Big Al's) carry it locally.

i have that turtle bone & it definitely has a backing . about 2 hours ago i just took the backing off it. my turtle is eating it better now since before i didn't notice the backing.
