You want to feed carrots in moderation. So definitely not everyday. Maybe once a week or so. Mikey gets an orange 'stache every time he gets carrots too. It's definitely cute!

Carrots are higher in sugar, so you want to be careful not to feed them too often. However, everything in moderation, so you could probably give a single strip more often than, say, a whole carrot's worth of strips.

And yeah, the first time my turtle got the orange lipstick, I was very freaked out. But since then, I've come to think he looks like he scarfed down a bunch of cheese puffs!

I haven't been cutting the carrots into strips for my turtle. I've been cutting thin slices and then cutting those in half. She is 5 inches and doesn't seem to have trouble eating them. She breaks pieces off and doesn't get the whole piece in her mouth. Is it safer to use strips?

Peace,

I don't use strips either, I just give little chunks. As long as your turtle can handle it without choking, it's fine. Larger turtles have pretty strong jaws so I don't worry about my guys needing tissue thin slices.
