Feeding and Nutrition :: Veggie Feeding Question

Turtle diets and eating habits discussed here.

Hello all. I am going to start feeding my RES some veggies and was wondering if I should "cook" them before feeding to them. I was thinking of starting off with some baby carrots and see how that goes. What's the best way to go about this?

Also, I feed him in a separate tank. How long should he be left in there to feed? Does it matter? I have been told 10-15min max but that doesn't sound right.

Thanks in advance.

My turtles' favorite veggie is cooked sweet patatoe. If I don't have time to boil it, I will put it in the microwave for 3-4 min. w/ some water. I feed my turtles in their tank but they always instantly eat the patatoe.

Thanks.

But I'm still unsure if I should cook the carrot shavings or just feed it raw to him.

Thanks.

You can give your turts carrots either way. Sometimes I give them raw, sometimes I cook them. I would start off giving them raw, since it's easier, and more nutritious.

I think the only things that you should definitely cook are sweet potato, pumpkin, and squash/zucchini, otherwise, I feed the other veggies/fruits raw.

Second that. They eat veggies raw in the wild! Plus not cooking them helps retain their nutritional content, as BullDog said.
