I don't think canned veggies would be good, they frequently have a lot of added salt. Frozen can work though. Sweet potato should be steamed a bit to soften it up.

I agree on the canned veg. I've recently noticed myself the salt that goes into almost all canned veg.
Fresh is best, but frozen is acceptable too. (Thawed, of course)
