Does reptomin go bad? I found 2.64lb thing of reptomin for $30 shipped. I've bought the 10oz jar of it for $12 and that has lasted just about forever... but this... well that might actually last forever. And for so much cheaper.

I'm unsure if stuff like this goes bad. I have about a pound of Mazuri pellets for my turtle being stored... and like you said it will literally take forever to use them all.

I'd like to know the answer to this as well.

I'm guessing the phone call would be the best choice.

I mean, it's not like the turtle food has anything but dried components to it, but meanwhile, it's still a food and can get moldy or fungus or whatnot. I'd say your best option would be to see if you and a few people can go in together on the cost and split the food up. The next best option would be vacuum sealing the bulk of it and keeping it in a cool, dark place.

I mean, I bought the 3.7 ounce bottle about 15 months ago and I'm around 2/3rds of the way through it. By those calculations, it would take me over 22 YEARS to go through that big bottle. I'd have thrown out the left over long before then for fear that it went bad, I mean, 22 years is a bit long to trust that the food is still fresh.

I wondered the same thing. Last time I ordered stuff out of the US, I bought 2 2.5lb boxes of reptomin.
Between the 2 turds, it took me about 5 months to go through 1 box (I know! That surprised me too!)

I fill up two little jars of reptomin, and the rest of the box I close up and store in two plastic bags. By the time I get to the bottom of the box, it may be a little stale, but I've never had it go bad (like mould or a bad smell or anything like that).

My husband and I were discussing this topic earlier, and we've decided that from a purely "our experience" standpoint, we wouldn't keep turtle food longer than 5 years, if not less. And we both agreed that any sort of vacuum sealing bag would be better than leaving it out. Between us, we've determined that unless the protein or something "went bad", the key expiration for the pellets are the vitamins. The vitamins should lose a large chunk of their potency after one year, and decrease further as time goes on. That's the same as why human medicine is supposed to be thrown out after one year.

I saw this thread yesterday. This morning, I checked my Reptomin Baby bottle
and printed at the bottom was 11/2009. I think pellets have expiration date.

Oh, I bought the Reptomin around August 2008. I'm guessing the bottle went into
the store a few months earlier than that, if not longer.

Mine didn't have an expiration date on it! I looked all over ... Leave it to the Americans to forget important details like that!

Oh, no, sorry, I meant it as sarcasm! Nothing negative at all! (We Americans like to insult ourselves as a joke, esp. when we discover things in other countries that we should have thought of ourselves, like expiration dates!)
