I read a while back that someone here used an oyster knife to peel their cuttlebone. So when I saw one in the store a while back, it got me thinking. But when I first saw them, they were $10, and I'm cheap. Plus, I had no problem using the good butter knife to peel the cuttlebone

. Anyhow, a while later, I saw it was marked down to $7. Still too rich for my tastes. Then later still, they were marked down to $3 (apparently oyster knifes were not a popular item

). I hummed and hawed over it, whether I wanted to get one then, but forget by the time I got out of the store. Finally, I went back the other day, and they were down to $2. Well, I could rationalize a toonie (toonie and a quarter with tax). My parents looked at me like I was nuts when I told them I bought an oyster knife (since I don't eat seafood).
I had a 6 pack of cuttlebone to peel (thought I'd get it done all at once), and it worked like a dream! It took me about the same time to peel all 6 as it usually does to peel 2. If you can find an oyster knife for cheap, then scoop it! It's great because it doesn't have a sharp blade on it, so you can't cut yourself, (though I still managed to poke myself with the tip

), and it's thin so you don't waste a lot of cuttlebone.
Here's a few pics, if you've never seen one before. Mine has a really nice "ergonomically designed" non-slip handle.
This pic shows what the blade looks like. Very thin, and slightly curved at the end.
