I saw another post that is making me a bit worried about my RES now... What is pyramiding? What does it look like? What exactly is the worry about it? How can it be prevented or avoided??

And does my little guy look like he is pyramiding??

I am probably being a paranoid new turtle mommy but I'd love to know this info anyways!!
Thanx :)

Nope, that's not pyramiding. The arch is normal for youngsters, both of mine have it too, and so does every other RES that age I've seen in pictures. Pyramiding happens on each of the scutes individually because he's not shedding them. So imagine what it would look like if each plate got taller and taller.

I worry about pyramiding too, the best way to avoid it is a diet with vitamin D & calcium and UV lighting.

Your little guy looks healthy and happy :)

nope, he's just growing. just keep his diet varied (70:30 protein:veggies for the first year then 40:60 from then on), and he should be fine. He's a cutie.
