We have had a female RES for about 6 years. When we found her she was at least 5 inches and now over 7, I will measure tomorrow.
After reading the nutrition section I know we are guilty of feeding way to many pellets, we have been feeding a verity of pellets like it tells you on the container. Example as much as they will eat in a 30 plus minutes period.
The other foods have been crickets, gold fish, some fruit and the only veggies are the frozen mixed cubes you can get at Pet co or Petsmart.
She does not like veggies at all except the frozen cubes. I know we need to change this so any suggestions on how to get her interested.
Would you recommend the jello shot recipe? It has to be a step in the right direction.
Because she likes the frozen cubes I thought of making something similar to a jello shot from the staple food list of red, green lettuce and the turnip greens and dandelion leaves.

To get your turtle interested in veggies, I would try the jello shot. You might want to try feeding your turtle in a container, especially if it might get messy. You can also try some aquatic plants which you can leave in the tank. They'll either grow or get eaten :) And try a veggie clip -- it's a plastic clamp with a suction cup that holds a leaf in place. It usually works well.

I have been using a feeding tank for about a year now that's the only way to go. I use a rubbermaid container, just fill 3/4 and feed. My pond stays so much cleaner I used to have to clean the pond every week.

Should I try the new recipe it says it's for turtles not shedding correctly or the original less the pellets?

How much of shot mix do you feed for a day a table spoon, that might be the size of her head maybe more like 2 tablespoons?
And feed it every day?

I don't use the recipe, so how much you want to use is up to you. Lettuce leaves and aquatic plants won't foul up your water, so you can feed in tank where they'll be more comfortable.

i feed mine jello frozen sticks everyday by hand so they swallow it whole pretty much. if you make them in the rubber stick molds, i bet a stick or two a day would be fine (using the recipe in the jello shots post). the stick is about 3 inches long and 3/4 inch thick. My turtles wouldn't touch veggies until i started dong this and now I think they would eat them until they exploded (little piggies).

My guys are over 5 inches and I cut the stick into 6 wedges when then are frozen. I feed them 4-5 wedges a day.
I have two female red ear sliders.
Chimpy - 5.5 inches
Chompy- 6.0 inches
Both were born about 7/2007
Got them -- 9/2007
