I think you did something great by rescuing the poor turtle, but maybe you should consider telling the authorities about the store keeping animals in such poor conditions! It's really sad :(

My turtle took a few days before he would eat regularly and now he is taking pellets right from my hand!

Good luck getting the set up right, someone gave me a turtle in need and it has turned into quite an expensive endeavor getting the correct habitat!

also, you want to put food in the water because turtles can't produce saliva to eat out of water. but good for you for rescuing that poor little turtle. ): this site will help you out a buttload, and the people on it. :)
